Applications

Research & Quantum Pure diamond for demanding experiments

Quantum, radiation and beamline work depends on controlled defects and purity. Diamond can be specified for both.

Research & Quantum application

Where diamond helps

Diamond is used in research and quantum science as a host for engineered defects such as NV centres, as a radiation detector, and as a beamline window or monitor. Buyers consider quantum-grade diamond, detectors and beam monitors. Defect species, purity and measurement conditions define the requirement.

The challenge

  • Controlled defects and purity

Quantum sensing relies on specific defects in an otherwise very pure lattice.

  • Reproducible measurement

Results depend on material, contacts and measurement setup being stated and repeatable.

  • Radiation and heat in beams

Beamline elements must pass or measure radiation while absorbing heat.

How diamond helps

  • Quantum-grade material

Sensors & Quantum Components supplies quantum-grade diamond, specified by defect species, concentration, isotope needs and test conditions.

  • Detection and beam monitoring

Diamond detectors and beam monitors measure radiation and beam position, intensity or profile.

  • Crystals and windows

Diamond Materials and Optical Components supply high-purity crystals and beam-handling windows and filters.

Common questions

What is quantum-grade diamond?

Quantum-grade diamond is specified for a particular defect system, such as the NV centre, and a given measurement method. It is not a universal sensitivity grade. State your defect species and conditions.

Can diamond detect radiation?

Yes. Diamond detectors collect charge generated by incident radiation. Radiation type, active volume, electrode geometry and bias determine suitability, so we review those details with you.

Can you supply samples for a research programme?

Paid evaluation samples are available where appropriate, scoped to your evaluation. Describe your experiment and measurement method, and we will advise what can be offered.
